The all-you-can-eat buffet is filled with a variety of traditional Hawaiian foods. After the pig is revealed to all of the party guests, it’s time to take your seat. Kalua literally means to cook in an underground oven. The pork eaten at a luau is called a kalua pig because of the way it was prepared and cooked. Make sure to venture over to the kalua pig area when it’s unearthed from its traditional Hawaiian underground oven, called an imu. Visitors can roam around the large luau space before dinner, to take beachfront photos, learn Hawaiian traditions and dances like the hula, or shop the local artisans’ goods. The large, open atmosphere has visitors overlooking the ocean. As you step inside the luau, which means “party” in Hawaiian, you will be greeted with a fresh flower lei necklace. Considered the best luau on Maui, the Old Lahaina Luau is a must-do.
